Powerful poetry and sublime music combine in this program of masterpieces for choir and organ. Texts from the psalms, along with the poetry of John Donne, George Eliot, Thomas Hardy and others are set to music by masters of the 20th Century Anglican Choral Tradition: Hubert Parry, Herbert Howells and Gerald Finzi.

Also on the program are two recent works by Cecilia’s music director, Nicholas White, including the first performance of Regret Not Me, for unaccompanied choir. Barbara Bruns completes the program with a performance of Finzi’s exquisite Eclogue, arranged for organ solo.

Gerald Finzi, Lo, The Full Final Sacrifice

Herbert Howells, Requiem

C.H.H. Parry, Songs of Farewell

Nicholas White, The Choir Invisible, and Regret Not Me

Barbara Bruns, organ

Nicholas White, conductor
