The Boston Cecilia Presents a Benefit Concert for Japan

March 29, 2011 — The Boston Cecilia Presents Faure's Requiem on April 16th in Copley Square, With 100% of Proceeds to Benefit Survivors of the Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan

In response to the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th, The Boston Cecilia, one of Boston's oldest performing-arts organizations, wishes to put music to work as a force for good.

On April 16th, under the leadership of Music Director Donald Teeters, members of The Boston Cecilia will be joined by voices from some of Boston's finest choruses, orchestral players from the Boston Musicians' Association, and noted soloists in a performance of Gabriel Fauré's Requiem. All of the performers are donating their time to the benefit concert.

One-hundred percent of proceeds from the performance will go to disaster relief efforts via the highly-rated charity Direct Relief International, a non-profit organization working with local organizations in Japan to provide emergency relief to disaster victims.

The venue for the event will be Copley Square's Trinity Church in Boston. "Local individuals and businesses have been very generous in helping us to underwrite this performance, so that we can really give all of the proceeds where they are most urgently needed," says concert organizer Yui Anzai, herself a native of Fukushima, Japan and a singer with The Boston Cecilia. "Trinity Church is donating the space for the performance, and they're not alone. The response from the community -- both businesses and individuals -- has been truly amazing."

Tickets can be reserved at www.bostoncecilia.org or by calling 617-410-6487.
