THE BOSTON CECILIA PRESENTS "THIS LITTLE BABE" - A NEW ERA EMERGES
December 1, 2011 — Conductor Donald Teeters will lead The Boston Cecilia in Benjamin Britten’s "A Ceremony of Carols" and Daniel Pinkham’s "Christmas Cantata" in concerts on Friday, December 16, in Boston and Sunday, December18, in Brookline. The Cecilians, at midpoint in their 136th season, will revive these two 20th century Christmas classics, both of which they successfully recorded under Teeters' leadership in recent years, in a program that also includes excerpts from Berlioz' oratorio "L’Enfance du Christ," a cappella works by Górecki and Bruckner, and a sampler of ever popular British Carols.
Teeters, now in his final season as Cecilia music director, said about this concert: "There is so much glitz surrounding the celebration of Christmas these days, so much that is tawdry. Maybe it's time to dig deep into the season's solid gold treasures in the excellent company of The Boston Cecilia singers."
