THE BOSTON CECILIA NAMES GEORGE IMIRZIAN ITS NEW GENERAL MANAGER
October 8, 2010 — The Boston Cecilia, one of the Northeast's oldest choral arts organizations, has named George K. Imirzian as its General Manager, following former GM Erin Huelskamp's September departure to pursue a career in music education.
Imirzian joins The Boston Cecilia during a time of important transition. The current season is the penultimate for Music Director Donald Teeters, who has been the organization's conductor for more than forty years.
Cecilia president Genevieve Hendrey says, "the Board of Directors and the membership are so pleased to have George join The Boston Cecilia during a time of historic meaning for our organization. We're looking forward to working together to ensure a vibrant, musical future for the group."
Imirzian, a native of Istanbul, Turkey, has worked in the Boston area for more than twenty years, and brings an extensive background in communications and multimedia production. He holds degrees from Northeastern University in business administration and journalism.
A lifelong fan of classical forms of music, Imirzian is also the producer of two classical guitar albums featuring noted guitarist Iakovos Kolanian. The album Shoror was realized out of Imirzian's vision, and commitment to, the traditional music of Armenia, and represents a pioneering interpretation of Armenian folk music. Imirzian is also an avid photographer and author of a forthcoming book of photography on Boston's Freedom Trail.
Of joining The Boston Cecilia, Imirzian says it represents the fulfillment of a dream to devote his professional energies to the fields about which he feels most passionate.
Cecilia audiences will have their first chance to meet Imirzian when the group opens its 135th season on Saturday, October 23rd with a program of Romantic lieder featuring tenor William Hite at All Saints Parish, Brookline.
