
Position Available: Chorus General Manager (Part Time) — May 2024
The Boston Cecilia, one of Greater Boston’s premier choruses since 1876, seeks a part-time general manager experienced in performing arts management. The ideal candidate is a champion for the arts, detail-oriented, affable, efficient, able to work independently on a variety of projects simultaneously, tech-savvy, and skilled at working with volunteers and diverse constituents. The General Manager reports to the President and works in close partnership with Board committees and the Music Director to ensure the chorus operates with a high degree of professionalism. Duties of the General Manager includes Concert Management, Operations, Publicity, and Communications.
Celebrating our 150th season in 2026, Boston Cecilia is a community of 50+ singers governed by a Board of Directors. Under the musical leadership of Music Director Michael Barrett, we produce four concert programs a year. Boston Cecilia performs a wide-ranging repertoire from early music to contemporary compositions and collaborates frequently with composers, performers, and other musical organizations. We are committed to reaching new audiences and building and sustaining an inclusive community.
Our ideal candidate will be a champion for the arts, enthusiastic about our commitment to a diverse repertoire, chorus and audience, and eager to work with us on donor development, planning our 150th anniversary celebration, and modernizing our systems.
Specific job responsibilities include:
Administrative Duties
o Manage day-to-day operations. Serve as point-of-contact for inquiries to the chorus
o Maintain singer contact list, track annual member dues and rehearsal attendance
o Maintain singer list and calendar in Chorus Connection
o Order and provide music for singers; collect music fees
o Special projects by mutual agreement
Concert Management
o Work with Music Director to secure concert venueso Oversee content and production of concert programs
o Manage concert logistics and ticketing
Publicity and Marketing
o With Outreach & Concert Promotion Committee, promote upcoming concerts
o Oversee design/printing/distribution of print and electronic publicity
o Maintain and update Cecilia website
o Prepare and place electronic and print advertisements
Fundraising and Donor Development
o Manage supporter communications
o Oversee preparation and mailing of biannual donor appeals
o Maintain audience and donor databases
o Support fundraising events and special campaigns as needed
Other
o Attend board meetings and selected committee meetings
o File required licensing reports (BMI, ASCAP)
o Maintain relationships with Greater Boston Choral Consortium and other organizations as needed
Requirements:
o Professional experience with a performing arts or other nonprofit organization strongly preferred
o Strong organizational skills, with excellent attention to detail
o Strong written, oral and electronic communication skills
o Familiarity and comfort with current computer and database technologies
o Facility with marketing software, Mailchimp, and social media
o Fundraising and donor development experience a plus
o Ability to work independently and with multiple stakeholders
o Flexibility: the General Manager will be required to attend some Monday night rehearsals during our regular season, September through May, and be available to work some additional evenings and weekends. Boston Cecilia provides office space in All Saints Parish, Brookline, MA
Salary:
This is an hourly position averaging 12-15 hours/week (more at concert times; less in the summer). The annual salary ranges from $12,000-$15,000.
